We recently saw the arrival on campus of 230 pupils from 21 High Schools to take part in the Computing Science and Maths "June Workshops". The computing workshop took place on Friday 9th June with the maths one a week later. The pupils came onto campus and heard talks about career opportunities in Maths and the different aspects of Computing Science. They took part in a series of activities, including computer simulation, analysing their own Facebook network, doing a maths pub quiz, and learning winning strategies for different games.
We hope the level of noise at the end of each day was an indication of how much fun the young people had. They certainly showed an aptitude for using a winning strategy, which we are sure will stand them in good stead in the future.
