Advantages / Disadvantages Of OSGi

Advantages

  • OSGi has open standards that are freely available to all those who wish to become members. This reduces the need for proprietary software (software unique to one manufacturer or company).
  • Many of the world's large companies involved with consumer electronics are involved in OSGi, so it has been widely adopted.
  • The OSGi Service Platform offers endless opportunities for devices to become connected.

Disadvantages

  • The necessary software for a bundle must be created before a device will operate with OSGi.
  • It is a complicated technology where changes must be carried out by a professional and so could not be performed by care workers or end users.
