Possible Uses for Dynamic Configurability
Commercial uses for Dynamic Configurability are perhaps limited, but a few examples can be cited. A recent example is Windows Vista, the next generation operating system from Microsoft. This uses a learning process to understand the user's preferences regarding security. When the system is installed, popup menus ask the user whether to allow a service or access to a device. As time passes, the operating system learns what the user the allows and disables, and can eventually take this over automatically.
Applications to Home Care
Dynamic Configurability is one area within the MATCH Project that has become an integral part of the home care system. If the system does not incorporate these advanced features, then the overall flexibility of the system would be greatly reduced. The end user could become disillusioned with the whole idea of integrated home care. If the system could not be altered, end users could be forced to follow someone else's rules within the home environment.
